Offset Printing |
Offset printing is a printing technique in which images and wordings are transferred to the rubber surface of a cylinder before being pressed by another cylinder on to paper. Ordinary offset machines have three cylinders. First the printing material is transferred to a metal plate called zinc. Application of certain chemicals to this plate makes it possible for only the images and wordings to absorb ink. The zinc is then rolled around the first cylinder and its illustrations are pressed on to the rubber surface of the second. The images on this surface are then transferred to white paper sheets which are rolled around the third cylinder. The fact that in this technique halftone printing involving CMYK colors is possible renders illustrations on CD and DVD higher in resolution. The quality of this type of printing is the same as printing on paper and it can be used for promotional purposes.
